Well, this week has been a bust. My plan to start gutting drawers and closets was hijacked by a sick baby, a sick dog who puked all over my bedroom, a neurotic dog who peed in my formal living room because he was having a bad day, a buttload of work for my financial-analyst-in-yoga-pants job, running all over town for random errands and appointments and all kinds of other ridiculousness. Also, I decided to paint the living and dining room last night.
My week in a nutshell.
This is what my house looked like yesterday afternoon. Note the Bissel and Dyson sitting out, giving the illusion of cleanliness. Yes, that is a random shoe sitting in the middle of the living room. And in case you missed it, there's also an extra set of couches hanging out in my hallway.
Here's one for the baby book! Baby's first time being babysat by the TV!
My 6 month old was in an Orwellian trance while I worked on budgets. Is it too late to make a submission to the Mom of the Year awards? Would it help if I added that I also dragged my sick baby to Target so I could look at curtains (and buy milk) at 8:00 last night?
Meanwhile, my back door looked like this from leaving aforementioned sick and neurotic dogs out past their normally prescribed schedule of time "in nature". Frankie literally pounds her paws on the door when she wants in. I guess I should see if there is also a Dog Owner of the Year award...
I did do laundry... never mind that it sat on the guest bed, some of it folded, some of it just piled in heaps along with Dan's doctor bag and otoscope kit from a late night exam of Lucas' ears strewn about.
The bed hasn't been made all week and my nightstand is a collecting ground for random baby things. Booger suckers and thermostats are great decorative items! (I feel some weird obligation to note that that is not a rectal thermometer hanging out on my nightstand. It's a regular under the armpit one. I have a fundamental aversion to sticking things in other people's butts.) (Awkwaaaaard.)
It would probably take me 10 minutes to stuff all the clean diapers and put them away, but instead, I've been just grabbing one off of the drying rack with each change. I should also note that it's been approximately 36 hours since I ironed anything...
... and about 48 hours since I fixed my hair.
And our dinner menu for the week? Tuesday night I made nothing. Wednesday night I made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and Dan ate fast food. Tonight, I'm going fancy and boiling rice and dumping a frozen PF Changs dinner kit in the electric skillet. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this week has been awesome.
I really, really, really hate when things are chaotic around the house. It gives me anxiety. This afternoon, after the Goodwill picked up the extra couches, I felt like I could breathe a little better. I did a triage of the downstairs while Lucas took his afternoon nap, which improved my outlook immensely. Hopefully, I can get everything else taken care of tonight so that I don't have to endure another work day staring at the mess wishing I could just turn my computer off and vacuum.
Dan called me a "crazy obsessive compulsive weirdo" last night. He was giving me a hard time, trying to get my goat, but I know there's a bit of truth in it. I mean, it's not like I'm storing Coke bottes of my own pee or anything, but mess gets to me. My biggest piece of baby advice I received from my closest friends and family was to learn to accept the messes.
Maybe this week was a crash course.
Also, what do you think of the color? I'm still not sure if I like it or hate it. I need to figure out a way to work some color in, but overall... thumbs up? Thumbs down? Dan said that it looked nice and was "very elegant". Either he really does like it, or he's just trying to ensure that I don't start painting again before the weekend arrives.
I'm leaving the blue tape on the baseboards, just in case.
I'm sorry to hear that the level of "clutter" in your house was making you twitchy with anxiety, but can I just say that, if it were possible, seeing these pictures may have made me love you even that much more. :)
I like the wall color very much! And I think that bringing pops of color into the room (like with the curtain panels that you'd mentioned adding on to) will be gorgeous!
