Lucas has had a slow start with solids. He took a long time to show any interest in feeding himself. He's never been a big hand-to-mouth kid, so for a while I was feeding him his cereal just to get him used to the idea of something different in his mouth. Eventually, he decided he really liked those cereal puffs and started working on doing it on his own. He still has moments where he forgets to release the food from his fingers once he's got it in his mouth, but for the most part had been doing pretty good. We were trying new things with moderate success and I was pleased with his efforts.
And then... the great sweet potato debacle of 2012.
Baby Boy loves his sweet potato mashers, so I thought sweet potato chunks would be a big hit. I over boiled, cooled and cut up into bites a yummy little sweet tater and set it on his tray with the expectation that he would love it.
Nope.
Instead, every chunk that went in his mouth was promptly spit out. I even tried mashing it up and spoon feeding bites, but he was not fooled.
Ever since this obviously traumatic experience, he has been very careful of the foods I attempt to feed him and suddenly, we're back to just cereal puffs again.
There is hope in the knowledge that eventually, when he's ready, he'll get to solids.
I'll follow your lead, sweet buddy.
